Timber Lakes Fire Department purchases new firefighting gear
Sun. Aug 25th 2019

The Timber Lakes Fire Department has recently purchased new firefighting gear for our firefighters that is designed to minimize exposure to potentially harmful, cancer causing particles. After careful consideration, TLVFD has decided to purchase new bunker gear from Viking Life-Saving Equipment. This new gear is designed to remove the outer shell while at the fire scene, after it becomes contaminated from working inside of a structure fire and to be placed into a specially designed dissolvable washing bag, the new gear also has additional technologies to help reduce contact with harmful particles that are an inherent danger with the job. With this process, the firefighters would not have to remain in close contact with the contaminated gear and continue being exposed to those potentially harmful particles. Once the contaminated outer shell is placed into the washing bag, a clean outer shell will be utilized to replace the contaminated one so the firefighter can remain ready for future emergencies. Being able to have an outer shell that is replaceable while the primary one is being cleaned is more cost effective than buying each firefighter a second set of bunker gear.
